AMI Partners with the Philadelphia Science Festival

One of the key elements in the AMI's strategic plan is to develop partnerships with scientific stakeholders in an effort to raise the public profile of our association and profession. We need to promote medical illustrators as the essential professionals for creating all visual media that advances scientific understanding, communication, education, and research–and also promote the AMI as the premier global resource for those professionals. The AMI will be developing mutually beneficial relationships with organizations and institutions with an interest in the skills and abilities we offer.

This year, the AMI is involved as an Event Partner in a Signature Event for the 2012 Philadelphia Science Festival. The 2011 Festival attracted more than 100,000 attendees to 120 events over 9 days in April. The AMI's event is entitled "Visualizing the Body Beautiful" and will be held Friday, April 27th, from 6-7:30 with a short reception afterwards. The AMI will be providing 3 of the 4 presenters: Christine Young, President-elect of the AMI, Mark Dryer, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Communications, University of Toronto at Mississauga, and Nathaniel Klein, Director of Innovation for iSO-FORM. Our collaborating Partners are the Wistar Institute Cancer Center (www.wistar.org), who will be providing the fourth presenter, Nina Long, Archivist and Curator for the Wistar Museum Collection (which includes a first edition Vesalius de Humani Corporis, as well as anatomical sculptures by William Rush), and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (http://www.pafa.org) who is providing the venue for the event.
